We Laughed. We Cried. We met Vendor-Boy.
But first, Jackie and Deidre climbed into the MG….
… found some clever parking….
… grabbed a few dozen friends …
…and went to the ballgame! My mind’s still all abuzz about our outing on August 27th. I’m not sure if it was because this event was a night game outing but our crew of women and girls ROCKED! I think we were on Diamond Vision four times, though I have to admit that it may be due mostly to our contingent of pre-teen girls who were enthusiastically dancing and cheering at every opportunity. Do you remember when you had that much energy?!?! Marianne Short, the Vice President of Human Resources for the Mariners and Rebecca Hale, Director of Public Relations, joined us for a pre-game event in the team’s official interview room. They charitably made themselves available for our peppering of questions and suggestions and offered a unique insight into the inner-workings of a major league ball club. Charlotte “Red” Brown won the GRAND PRIZE, which was a signed ball from that night’s starting pitcher for the Mariners: Joel Pineiro! Our highbrow prizes included books from noted local journalist Art Thiel; Alan Schwartz, baseball writer for ESPN.com, Baseball America and contributor to the New York Times; and Jean Ardell an award-winning baseball writer. Other lucky winners received our new Savvy Girls t-shirts, bobbleheads, nesting dolls and the much-coveted complimentary tickets to our next Savvy outing in April 2006! As with our outing last April, this game didn’t end well for the Mariners. One of our Savvy Girls, who came up from Portland, wasn’t too sad, though. You’ll recognize her: she’s the one with the White Sox cap… And we think there was one other among us but she’s not talking… Our seats were a little higher than last April but closer to home plate, which was more enjoyable. We could see directly into the Mariner’s messy dugout and were perfectly situated to see Ichiro’s heart-wrenching out at home plate in the bottom of the 8th. We have lots of photos from this great outing! Please send your photos to savvygirls@savvygirlsofsummer.com and we’ll post as many as we can! Oh! One last thing…at the end of the evening there was a little scuttlebutt. For those of you wanting gory details, we’ll clear the air. Though, if you are looking for something really salacious, you’ll be disappointed!
